Abstract
The research entitled Types and Functions of Directive Illocutionary Speech
Acts in Deddy Corbuzier - Nadiem Makarim's Youtube Podcast 2020 aimed to
describe the types and functions of directive illocutionary speech acts between Deddy
Corbuzier and Nadiem Makarim video podcast, "Nadiem, stupid for a generation?",
"National Examination Is Discrimination!", and "Lecture Is Not Important (Make
Your Parents Watch)" in Deddy Corbuzier Nadiem Makarim podcast 2020. The
research type was descriptive qualitative. The data were transcripts of speeches
spoken by Deddy Corbuzier and Nadiem Makarim. The methods and techniques
employed in this research were divided into three stages, the data provision, the data
analysis, and the data presentation. To collect the data, Listening and note-taking
techniques were utilized. The data analysis was implemented by matching two basic
techniques of Determining Elements (PUP) technique and Applying the Equalizing
technique (HBS). Presentation of the results was done through informal methods.
Based on the results of the analysis and discussion, it was found that the types of
directive illocutionary speech acts in Deddy Corbuzier, and Nadiem Makarim's speech
consisted of (a) types of requests role as asking and praying, (b) types of questions
role as asking and interrogating, (c) orders (requirements) role as instructing, directing
and requiring functions, (d) prohibitions role as prohibiting functions, (e) granting
permission (permissive) role as approving, permitting, conferring, and forgiving, and
(f) Advice (advisories) role as advising and suggestion. The most dominant type and
function of directive illocutionary speech acts was the type of question directive
illocutionary speech act with the function of interrogating.
