Abstract
Education is one of the most important things to prepare for society's future success.
The quality of education can be improved by several things that are highlighted,
namely the development of new curriculum models, school management, the
quality of teachers and education personnel improvement, as well as the quality of
learning and the effectiveness of learning models by applying the Problem Based
Learning model through this application model, which can help teachers to relate
the learning in the real world material. In this model, students' abilities can be
optimized, one of which is direct observation and group work to develop critical
thinking skills to solve problems and encourage students to be more active in the
learning process to improve learning outcomes. The purpose of this study was to
determine the effect of the Problem Based Learning model on student learning
outcomes in the subject of geography. This study used a quantitative approach and
experimental research. The population in the study was eleventh-grade IPS students
at SMA N 2 Purbalingga. Sampling in this study used a probability sampling
technique. The researcher selected the sample randomly; one group would be the
experimental group, and another would be the control group. The results of this
study are the influence of the Problem Based Learning model on student learning
outcomes, the results obtained from a significance value of more than 0.05, a
significance value of 0.76, and it indicated an effect of the Problem Based Learning
model on learning outcomes. The average pre-test of the experimental class was
71.07 to 76.71, an increase of 5.69. The average control class pre-test was 73.23 to
75.14, only experiencing an increase of 1.91.
