This study aimed to determine the benefits of images and GIS in determining the
priority location of green open space development in Purwokerto City using tiered
qualitative methods. Scoring on several parameters needed using Arcgis such as
residential and non-residential areas, distance to roads, distance to rivers and
density of buildings. These parameters produced a map of priority locations for
green open space development in Purwokerto City. The result showed that
Purwokerto City has a very prioritized location (priority 1) for green open space
development which includes 1038.959 Ha or 25.42% of the total area of Purwokerto
City. It also has prioritized area (priority 2) and non-prioritized (priority 3) for green
open space development which cover 2397.39 Ha or 58.66% of the total area of
Purwokerto City and 658.66 Ha or 16.12% of the total area of Purwokerto City,
respectively. The three priority locations of green open space development are
spread throughout the city of Purwokerto combined with the concept of a concentric
multiple nucleus spatial layout which is divided into 9 areas or zones, namely the
Central Business District, light industrial or trade zones, low-class settlement zones,
middle-class settlement zones, high-class settlement zones, heavy industrial zone,
suburban business zone, suburban residential zone, and industrial zone.
