Abstract

This research was aimed to investigate the questioning strategies used by English teachers and the function of each question posed in English class. The research used descriptive qualitative method. The data was gathered through observation and interview. Three English teachers from SMP Negeri 3 Kebasen took part in this research. The result of this research showed that the types of questions applied by all teachers include procedural and convergent questions in the class and no one applied divergent questions. Convergent questions was the most dominant question given by the teacher with 100 questions. Then it was followed by procedural questions with 31 questions.
