Abstract

This research is motivated by students' low achievement. The research aims to
improve student achievement in mathematics subjects with two-dimensional figures
through discovery learning models. This type of research is Classroom Action
Research (CAR). This study was carried out in two cycles, each of which had two
meetings and one lesson plan with the stages of planning, doing, observing, and
reflecting. Fourteen students from fourth grade SD Negeri 2 Sirandu class served as
the study's subjects. There are 7 male students and 7 female students in the fourth
grade at SD Negeri 2 Sirandu. Both test approaches and non-test techniques were
used in the data gathering for this study. Written test questions, student activity
observation sheets, and instructor activity observation sheets were used as the data
collection tools of this study. The increase in learning achievement occurred in the
first cycle to the second cycle. The average student learning achievement in the flat
wake material in the first cycle of meeting 1 is 68.70 with a learning completeness
percentage of 42% with very poor criteria. In the first cycle of the second meeting,
the average student learning achievement has increased by obtaining an average of
69.10 with a percentage of completeness of 64% sufficient criteria. In the second
cycle of meeting 1, there was an increase, namely obtaining an average of 72 with a
percentage of learning completeness of 79% good criteria. While in the second cycle
of meeting 2 there was a significant increase, namely obtaining an average of 73.70
with a learning mastery percentage of 86% very good criteria. The results of this
study indicate that the application of the Discovery Learning model can improve
student learning achievement in mathematics through two-dimensional figures for the
fourth grade of SD Negeri 2 Sirandu, Karangjambu Sub-District, Purbalingga
Regency.
