Abstract

This research aimed is finding out the students’ ability and difficulty in speaking English at grade IX of Az-zahra Al-Gontory Modern Islamic Boarding School. Descriptive Quantitative method was used as a method of this research. The researcher choose all the members of class IX as the sample which consist of 8 students. In collecting data, test and interview was used. The research concluded that student’s ability in speaking English were in the level bad with the majority of the students got score 30-54 (62,50%). The higest students’ dificulty in speaking is fluency with 65% of problems, while vocabulary(40%) grammar (52.5%), pronunciation (47,5%) and content (35%) are low problems in learning speaking
