Abstract

This study aims to describe students' mathematical critical thinking skills in terms of the Hippocrates - Galenus personality type in the subject of Pythagorean theorem. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The subjects of this study were students of class VIII D SMP Negeri 1 Sokaraja. Sampling using a purposive sampling technique consisting of 2 students for each personality type, namely 2 sanguin personality students, 2 choleric personality students, 2 melancholic personality students, and 2 phlegmatic personality students. The instruments used were personality type questionnaires, critical thinking skills tests and interview guidelines. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The validation test uses technical triangulation. The results showed: (1) the melancholy and sanguin personality type was able to master 5 indicators of critical thinking, namely understanding problems, using appropriate information, making conclusions, providing further explanations and determining strategies and tactics, (2) choleric personality types were able to master 4 indicators. critical thinking, namely using appropriate information, making conclusions, providing further explanations, and determining strategies and tactics, and (3) the phlegmatic type is able to master 3 indicators of critical thinking, namely using appropriate information, providing further explanations, and determining strategies and tactics .
