Abstract

This research intended to know the effectiveness of Numbered Head Together for teaching reading comprehension at the second grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah Sumbang at the Second Semester in Academic Year 2017/2018. Using quasi experimental research of the game by focusing of four steps: numbering each students, asking questions, head together, and answering questions. The method of the research was quasi-experimental study. There were two classes namely experimental class and controlled class, the writer used class VIIIA as exsperiment class and class VIIIB as control class. The test was done twice, they were pre-test and post-test. The type of the test was multiple choice items, t-test formula was used to analyze the data. Based the computation, t-test result was 4.47 and t-table was 1.668 at the significant level 0.05 with the degree of freedom 66. It showed that t-test result was higher than t-table (4.47 > 1.668). Based on the research result, the hypothesis was accepted. Consequently, it can be concluded that Numbered Head Together is effective on students’ reading comprehension.
