Abstract

This research entitles Form of Speech Acts on Letter to Editors Rubric Discourse of Kompas Newspaper November 2019 Edition. It aims to describe the form of speech acts on “Letter to Editors” rubric discourse of Kompas Newspaper November 2019 Edition. The research is qualitative descriptive research. The data are the discourse in Letter to Editor Rubric of Kompas newspaper November 2019 edition. The data collection methods consist of listening and note-taking methods. The data are then analyzed using identity and distributional methods. Moreover, the method used for displaying the result of data analysis is an informal display method. The data analysis result indicates that in this research there are 3 forms of speech acts namely locution, illocution, and perlocution. In this research, the data of locutionary speech acts are 172 data, illocutionary speech acts are 172 data consisting of 94 data of representative illocution, 62 data of directive illocution, 15 data of expressive illocution and 1 data of declarative illocution, while data of commisive illocution are not found. The perlocutionary speech acts found in this research are 172 data. The most common illocutionary speech act found was representative illocution because in the November 2019 edition of the “Letter to Editors” column was containing the fact conveyed by the author to deliver information and the interlocutors need to know that information.
