This research aimed to describe the implicature function contained in the speech
of the presenter and resource person on the Mata Najwa talkshow on Trans 7
YouTube uploaded in November-December 2019. Implicature is something that is
involved or becomes the subject of discussion. Researcher had listened to Mata Najwa
talkshow several times on Trans 7 and found utterances from presenter and resource
person that contained implicatures. There are two types of implicatures, namely
conventional implicatures and conversational implicatures.Conventional implicatures
are general and conventional meanings that are generally accepted by society, while
conversational implicatures are those that are obtained only when a conversation
occurs. The speech implied by the speaker depends on the aspects of the speech
situation in the form of the speaker and the interlocutor, the context of the
conversation, and the purpose of the conversation being discussed. The type of this
research was a qualitative descriptive study, which used qualitative data and then
described it descriptively. The data in this study were the speech of the presenter
(Najwa Shihab) and resource persons that contained implicatures which consisted of
conventional implicatures and conversational implicatures. The primary data sources
in this study were speakers, namely presenter (Najwa Shihab) and resource persons.
The secondary data source in this research was the show of Mata Najwa on Trans 7
YouTube uploaded in November-December 2019. The research method in this study
used the pragmatic identity method and the referential identity method. The result of
the study showed that there were several conventional implicatures found on the talk
show such as conventional implicatures function to state, ask, command, and criticize.
In addition, the conversational implicature was also found in the talk show such as
implicatures function of stating, asking, ordering, and criticizing.
