This study entitled analysis of enhanced spelling (EYD) on students‘ personal
letters in class VII SMP N 3 Purwokerto academic year 2015-2016. It aimed to (1)
describe the forms of enhanced spelling onpersonal letters of students‘ in class VII
SMP N 3 Purwokerto 2015-2016 and (2) describe the percentage comparison of
correct and incorrect spelling on personal letters of students in class VII SMP N 3
Purwokerto 2015-2016.
This descriptive qualitativeresearch has data in form of students‘ personal
letter as many as 50 letters. The data source was students of class VII B dan VII C
SMP N 3 Purwokerto. The data collected by documentation an continued by reading
techniques. The data analiyzed by using distributional method,continued by.:
substitution techniques, (2) deletion technique, and (3) insertion technique.
This study of students‘ private letters in class VII SMP N 3 Purwokerto
academic year 2015-2016 resulted the correct enhanced spelling as follows: (1) capital
letters usage 60.4%, (2) abbreviation 73.7%, (3) pronoun 88.8%, (4) using (in,to, and
from ) 65.9%, (5) repetition form 77.1%, (6) words combination 80%, (7) particles
62.5%, (8) dot 84.6%, (9) comma 55.1%, (10) dashes 68.9%, (11) a questionmark
80.8%, (12) exclamation mark 26.3%, and (13) quatation mark 33.3%. However, the
incorrect enhanced spelling as follows: (1) capital letters usage 60.4%, (2)
abbreviation 26.3%, (3) pronoun 11.2%, (4) using (in,to, and from ) 34.1%, (5)
repetition form 22.9%, (6) words combination 20%, (7) particles 37.5%, (8) dot
15.6%, (9) comma 44.9%, (10) dashes 31.8%, (11) a questionmark 19.2%, (12)
exclamation mark 73.7%, and (13) quatation mark 66.7%.
