The research entitled An Analysis on Economic and Business Rubric Cohesion
in Suara Merdeka Daily Newspaper in the Edition of October 2015 was aimed to
describe the use of cohesion on the economic and business rubric in the edition of
October 2015, This research was a descriptive qualitative research. The data in this
research consisted the sentences in the "economic and business" rubric in Suara
Merdeka Daily Newspaper on the edition of October 2015. whereas the data source
was written data source which was 26 discourses on the "Economic and business'
rubric in Suara Merdeka Daily Newspaper of October 2015. The process in this
research was done in three phases: (a) data display included scrutinized method with
free scrutiny including conversation (SLBC) technique as continues technique, and
recording method, (b) analyzing data included distributional method by reading the
collected data, chose data based on the type, analyzing the chosen data based on the
type, and (c) presenting the data using informal presentation method.
The results of analyzing data are: cohesion covering grammatical cohesion and
lexical cohesion. Grammatical cohesion found is the grammatical cohesion using the
following elements: (a) reference, (b) Substitution, (c) ellipsis, and (d) conjunction.
Lexical cohesion found is the lexical cohesion using the following elements: (a)
synonym, (b) antonym, (c) hyponym, (d) repetition, (e) collocation., (f) equivalence.
Overall,, the total number of cohesion found in economic and business rubric cither
grammatical cohesion or lexical cohesion are 614 data.
