Abstract
Hazardous and toxic waste is the residue of a business or activity containing
hazardous and toxic materials which due to its nature, concentration and
/ or
quantity, either directly or indirectly, can pollute, damage the environment, or
endanger the environment of humans and living things (Suharto, 2010).
Liquid waste of vermicelli contains high levels of COD and TSS because it
uses basic ingredients that are organic materials. Therefore, the vermicelli
waste water must be treated before it is discharged into the environment.
The
method used to reduce COD and TSS levels was coagulation-flocculation
with the addition of moringa seed powder coagulant (Moringa Oliefera).
The
active substance contained in moringa seed, namely 4αL-rhamnosyloxybenzyl-
isothiocyanate, is able to adsorb wastewater particles. Decreasing
COD and TSS levels using a variety of coagulant doses and rapid mixing.
Pre-treatment obtained for 1592 mg / l COD and 14897 mg / l TSS. From
the
research that has been done, it was found that the influencing variables were
the coagulant dose and rapid mixing. The effect of the coagulant dose
and
rapid mixing on the reduction of COD in vermicelli liquid waste was
in
accordance with the wastewater concentration of standard with the most
efficient dose at 2000 mg / l with 250 rpm speed of 41.5 mg / l. The effect of
coagulant dose and rapid mixing on TSS levels decreased from 2000 mg /
l to
5000 mg / l obtained at the largest decrease in TSS dose. It was at a dose of
4000 mg / l with a speed of 200 rpm of 7836 mg / l.
