Abstract

This research aimed to describe the types of language styles on the slogans of snack
packages in January 2020. The study used descriptive-qualitative methods. The data
were words, phrases and sentences which contained the language styles on the slogan
of snack packages. The sources were the slogans of the snack packages on the market
in January 2020. The data were analyzed by making data classification tables
according to the type of language style based on the direct or absence of meaning.
Furthermore, the language styles were based on whether or not the meaning of each
data were examined one by one and then were explained its use. The results showed
that: first, from 50 slogans on the snack packages, the types of language styles
consisted on alliteration, assonance, anastrophe, asyndeton, polysyndeton, ellipsis,
tautology, erotesis, hyperbole, paradox, oxymoron, allegory, allusion, epithet,
synecdoche, metonymy, hypallage and pun. Second, from the data above, it can be
seen that the language style based on whether or not the meaning of the most widely
used in the slogans of the snack packages was the style of assonance, with a frequency
of seven data. Assonance was a style of language that used the same repetition of
vowels. This style of language was considered as the most appropriate to use in the
slogan of snack packages because it was the most effective way to make sentences in
the slogan interesting without using long words given that the media for writing
slogans on snack packages was very limited.
