Abstract

The aims of the research were to find out: 1) the kinds of error made by the second year students of at SMA Muhammadiyah Tambak in using Simple Present and Simple Past Tense and 2) the highest error made by the second year students of SMA Muhammadiyah Tambak in using Simple Present and Simple Past Tense in academic year 2015/2016. It was a descriptive research in which the total sample was 31 students (class XI I and XI 2). The data was collected by conducting 30 test questions. The finding showed the typical error that occurred in using Simple Present and Simple Past Tense were error of omission (39,6%), misformation (35,6%), addition ( 12,4%) and misordering (12,4%). Error of omission was the highest error which was made by the students in using Simple Present and Simple Past Tense with percentage 39,6%.
