This research described the classification of emotions and types of personality
of the characters in the novel entitled Tempurung. This was a descriptive qualitative
research with a psychological approach. The data source was Tempurung, a novel
written by Oka Rusmini. The research data were the words, phrases, and sentences in
the novel which contained the classification of emotions of its characters. The data
were collected using reading and writing techniques. The data were then analyzed
through several techniques including data reduction, data presentation, and data
verification. Based on the results of the study, the emotions in the novel were in the
form of (1) guilt, including the guilt for not being responsible for the family and
saying bad words, (2) fear, including phobia and anxiety, (3) sadness, including the
sadness because of being aggrieved and losing the loved ones, (4) love, (5) hate,
including the hatred of animals and someone, (6) anger, including the anger
manifested by threatening the lives of others, saying rude, and being silent, (7)
happiness, including being happy because of having children and living with the loved
ones, and (8) jealousy. While the types of personality in the novel included
introversion
and extraversion.
