Abstract

This research aims to describe the role of karawitan, a Japanese traditional music art, extracurricular in strengthening the character of patriotism in the 4.0 industrial revolution era at SDN 2 Kedungmenjangan. The research used descriptive qualitative method. The research subject consisted of the school headmaster, the trainer, the students, and the teachers. The data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. The data validity test was conducted through source triangulation. The data were analyzed using Miles Huberman model, consisting of data collection, data reduction, data display, and drawing a conclusion. The research result indicates that: (1) the extracurricular activities are conducted once a week on Saturday after school. The gamelan, a Javanese traditional music instrument, is complete. The karawitan uses Surakarta and Banyumas styles. The students are interested in joining the activities because of their own will and parental supports. The karawitan activity can maintain the existence of karawitan art in the middle of the 4.0 industrial revolution era, (2) the implementation of karawitan extracurricular can strengthen the character of love the homeland with the indicators of preserving art and culture and being proud of the nation's work. Karawitan extracurricular also gives values to students including the value of politeness, mutual cooperation, and responsibility, (3) the factors supporting karawitan extracurricular activities consist of the school environment, the family, and the students themselves. The factors inhibiting karawitan extracurricular activities include the schedule, which clashes with other activities scheduled, and technology development.
