Abstract

Background: Gliclazide is a second-generation sulfonylurea oral antihyperglycemic drugs used in the trearment of type II diabetes mellitus (NIDDM or Non-Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus). Gliclazide belongs to class II drugs in the BCS system (Biopharmaceutics classification System) where compounds in this class have high permeability and low solubility. Generic drugs are often assumed to be of lower quality compared to branded drugs. Objective: This study aims to compare differences in physical quality and dissolution profile of branded and generic gliclazide tablets. Each product is tested for physical properties and dissolution test. Samples were selected based on the product available in the market, such as branded gliclazide tablets with generic gliclazide tablets (DM and TS). Gliclazide tablets used in this research are conventional gliclazide tablets with 80 mg doses. Methods: The dissolution test was carried out in phosphate buffer pH 7,4 900 ml using a type II dissolution device with a rotation speed of 100 rpm and a temperature of 37 ± 0.5 °C for 45 minutes. Results: Based on the results of the study showed that the physical test of brand and generic gliclazide tablets had met the specified requirements. Conclusion: The dissolution test results showed that the F1 and F2 values were obtained on brand gliclazide tablets with DM generic gliclazide tablets, andgliclazide tablets brand with TS generic gliclazide tablets had the same dissolution profile.
