Abstract
Background : Cosmetics are ingredients or preparations that are intended to be used on the outside of the human body, especially for cleaning, fragrancing, maintaining the body in good condition. Cosmetics that contain dangerous dyes, including lipsticks. The use of harmful dyes in lipstick preparations itself can trigger health problems, especially on the skin. One alternative that can be done is to use natural dyes in lipstick preparations. Young teak leaves (Tectona grandis L.f) are plants that contain anthocyanin color pigments that can be used as natural dyes in solid lipstick formulations. The use of natural plants is currently in great demand because of its properties. The purpose of this article review was to determine the possible formulations to deliver young teak leaf extract in lipstick preparations Method : Determination of the optimum formula using a review article with an analysis of the effectiveness of young teak leaf extract as a cosmetic coloring, the effectiveness of solid lipstick preparations as decorative cosmetics, solid lipstick formulations from plant extracts. Optimization design of solid lipstick preparations from ethanolic extracts of young teak leaves. Results : Based on the results of literature reviews, young teak leaves contain anthocyanins which can be used as natural dyes and have radical scavenging activity with an IC50 value of 24.33 ppm. Conclusion : Lipstick formation with teak leaf extract content and variations of carnauba wax and paraffin wax had a positive effect on the physical properties of the lipstick, namely the response to hardness, spreadability, melting point and pH.
