Abstract

The flow of water in irrigation canals can be used as an electrical energy source. For example, in Kebumen village, the water flow can be converted into electrical energy. Pico hydropower plant design began with a site survey, water flow measurement, generator and turbine selection, assembly, and Pico hydropower plant testing. An overshoot turbine with a diameter of 60 cm and a total of 20 blades was used in this study to convert irrigation canal water discharge, which was measured at 0,29 m³/sec, into kinetic energy, which was subsequently converted into electrical energy via a dc shunt generator. The no-load turbine testing was done directly in the irrigation canal with an average rotation of 512,2 rpm. Generator testing was done in a laboratory. When used to charge the battery, the shunt dc generator produces a current of 0.2 A and a voltage of 11.9 V at 245 rpm, and a current of 4 A, and a voltage of 17.9 V at 900 rpm. With a turbine efficiency of 62.76 percent, the Pico hydropower plant turbine can produce 53.61 Watts of power. The Pico hydropower plant system generates 91.504 Wh of energy.
