Abstract
According to a survey conducted by PISA in 2015, mathematical communication skill in Indonesia was low with a score of 386 from the standard 490. This study aimed to describe the mathematical communication skills of students in SMP Negeri 3 Majenang in terms of students' thinking styles. This is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects in this study were students in class VII D of SMP Negeri 3 Majenang in the academic year of 2020/2021. Questionnaires, tests, and interviews were used in the data collection. The questionnaire was specifically designed to get information about student's thinking styles. The test used was a written test to measure mathematical communication ability. The research subjects consisted of 2 concrete sequential students, 2 abstract sequential students, 2 concrete random students, and 2 abstract random students. The results of this study indicated that: 1) concrete sequential students explained mathematical ideas in the form of pictures and mathematical language in an orderly manner and strive to be perfectionists, 2) abstract sequential students explained mathematical ideas in the form of pictures and mathematical language systematically, they were capable to analyze, 3) concrete random students explained mathematical ideas in the form of pictures and mathematical language by trying to find their own way, 4) Abstract random students explained mathematical ideas in the form of pictures and mathematical language in their own language.
