Abstract

This study aimed to determine the use of remittances on the socio-economic life of migrant families in Karangturi Village, Kroya Sub-district, Cilacap Regency. The research method was a survey. The population consisted of 125 migrants while the sample was 75 migrants in Karangturi Village. The sampling technique used was proportional sampling with questionnaires as data collection techniques. The data processing used data reduction and data presentation. Data were analyzed through qualitative descriptive techniques. The results showed that remittances from migrant workers from Karangturi Village were mostly used for consumptive purposes (61.5%) which consisted of daily needs, family holiday celebrations, house renovation, vehicle purchase, and household appliances purchase. Meanwhile, the use of remittances for productive purposes (38.5%) consists of land purchase, business opening, bank savings, children's education costs, and insurance. The existence of remittances received by migrant families can improve their socio-economic conditions.
