Abstract

The study aimed to describe in-depth the development of children's autonomy in the class viewed from parenting style. It was a case study. The data were collected by doing observations and interviews. Observation sheets of children's autonomy behavior and guidelines of interview about parenting were the instruments of this study. The subjects were observed while learning in the class. The interviews were conducted to the parents' subjects about parenting style. The result showed that different parenting arrangements resulted in different children's autonomy as well. The authoritarian parenting style resulted in more developed autonomy of children. The permissive parenting style had an impact on the underdeveloped autonomy of children.
