Abstract
The development of biodegradable plastic packaging technology is one of the
alternative ways to reduce dependence on using non-degradable plastic packaging
(plastic convensional). This case based on reduction of material derived from
petroleum reserves, awareness and concern for the environment and health issues.
In order to obtain biodegradable plastic, nanocellulose and glycerol were added to
starch, so that plastic became stronger and has higher elongation property. This
research using durian seed starch and durian peel nanocellulose as the basic
materials of biodegradble plastic. The aim of this research was to determine the
optimum condition of synthesized bioplastic from durian seed starch with the
addition of concentrations of durian peel nanocellulose (0.017; 0.1; 0.3; 0.5 and
0.58% w/w) and concentrations of glycerol (0.29; 0.5; 1; 1.5; and 1.7% w/w). The
experimental design using response surface method with 2 replications. The
analysis consists of tensile strength and percent elongation using response surface
method. The optimum bioplastics in the process condition use concentrations
0.5771% of nanocellulose and glycerol 0.2929% with tensile strength value 5.1353
MPa, and for response of percent of elongation The optimum bioplastics in the
process condition use concentrations 0.0172% of nanocellulose and glycerol
1.3071% with percent of elongation value 54.4273 %. Then followed by a
biodegradable test on the composition of nanocellulose 0.5% and glycerol 0.5%. It
is estimated that bioplastic will be perfectly degraded for 16.74 days.
