Background: Acne is a common skin problem, making the skin uncomfortable due to the pain it causes and making the facial appearance less attractive to look at. One of the causes of acne is the activity of the Propionibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus aureus. The use of synthetic drugs for the treatment of acne has side effects, therefore at this time, preparations for acne treatment from natural ingredients have been developed with less side effects. Natural ingredients that can be used are Curcuma xanthorrhiza rhizome and Cassia fistula with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activities. Acne medication can be obtained in various dosage forms, one of which is in the form of a peel-off gel mask composed of a film-forming, gelling agent, humectant, and preservative. Method: A review of several articles was conducted to see the optimum composition of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and glycerin to produce a gel peel off mask with good physical properties and its effect on the physical properties of the preparation. Results: The concentrations of PVA and glycerin affected the physical condition of the peel off gel mask preparation. Conclusion: PVA and glycerin concentrations affect the physical condition of the peel off gel mask and the optimum composition of PVA and glycerin to produce a gel peel off mask with good physical properties, namely the formulation with PVA ˃10%-16% and glycerin 5%-12%.
