Abstract

Language is a communication tool used by everyone in their daily life as a means to convey information and arguments to others. This research is entitled “Intensity in Using English as Classroom Communication by English Teachers’”. This research was conducted by researchers to two English teachers in SMA N 2 Purwokerto. In this research, the writer focuses on verbal communications that occur between teacher and students in the classroom and find out how long the teacher uses English as classroom communication. In this research, the writer used semi-structured interview. The results of this research showed that the duration used by the two English teachers in using English to communicate with students in the class was 60-70 minutes from a total of 90 minutes of teaching and learning activities. The teachers used English in communicating with students, in all classroom activities during English lessons. However, when the time came to be explaining the material, the teachers used Indonesian language to make the material easier for students to understand.
