Abstract

The aims of this research were to find out the information about whether or not the English Club is good for improving students’ speaking skills and the student perception on the benefits of the English Club for the students speaking skills in the English Club of SMA N 3 Purwokerto in academic years 2019/2020. The method of this research was qualitative research. The sampling technique in this research was purposive sampling. the sample of this research was 25 students who are joining SMA N 3 Purwokerto English Club. To obtain the data, the researcher used two instruments; questionnaires and interviews. The questionnaires were used to gain more valid and reliable data about the students’ responses towards the speaking club. While the interview` was used to find the benefit of the English Club for the students speaking skills. Based on the data obtained, the researcher concludes that the speaking club improved the students’ speaking skills and 96% students gave positive responses toward the implementation of the English Club, and also there were at least 6 benefits for the students speaking skills, they are well pronounced to speak english, fluency in speaking, comprehend to present material in English well, increased vocabulary, conveying in grammar and got new information about English culture.
