Abstract

This research aims to find about the analysis of illocutionary acts and how the illocutionary acts are conveyed directly or indirectly and why it is conveyed directly and indirectly in Joe Biden speech about Biden addresses the nation after Afghanistan falls to Taliban.
In conducting this research the researcher applied Searle’s theory of illocutionary acts that are assertive, directive, commissive, expressive and declaration. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative and the researcher use documentation as the method to collect the data.
From the analysis, the researcher finds four types of illocutionary acts, the researcher found nineteen data from the script with the frequencies as follows: nine data of assertive (47.36 %), two data of directive (10.52 %), six data of commissive (31.57 %), and two data of expressive (10.52 %), the declaration utterances were not found (0 %) in the speech. For the second and third research question the researcher found seventeen data conveyed directly and two data conveyed indirectly.
