Abstract
Principal leadership is a major factor in improving teacher performance
because school principals have an important position and role in improving
school quality. The aims of the study are I) to determine the principal's leadership
style in improving teacher performance at MI Muhammadiyah Gentasari, 2) to
determine the success of the principa1's leadership style at MI Muhammadiyah
Gentasari, 3) to determine the supporti g and inhibiting factors of the principal's
leadership style at MI Muhammadiyah Gentasari.
This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. The data sources
are principals, vice principals, teachers and school documents. with interview
data collection techniques, observation, and documentation. Data analysis with
data reduction, data presentation and conclusion drawing.
The results of the study show I) The leadership style of the MI
Muhammadiyah Gentasari principal is carried out using a democraticparticipatory
leadership style, this is ~videnced by when aecision making in a
deliberation or meeting always invollJes all meeting participants or all teachers.
2) The success of the head of MI Muhammadiyah Gentasari in improving
performance teachers using a_ democratic-participatory style as evid~nced by
teacher discipline an'd teacher enthusiasm in participating in training activities or
workshops so that teacher performa ce increases. 3) Supporting and inhibiting
fac ors for the principal's leadership style at MI Muhammadiyah Gentasari
include other; a) Complete and adequate school infrastructure, b) Commitment of
qualified teachers and employees in their fields, c) A conducive school
environment as a p1ace of learning so as to create a healthy and competitive
learning and work climate, d) obtain support from school com onents, and e)
establishing cooperation and parlnerships with parents, the community and the
government. While the inhibiting factor for the leadershif!_ style of the principal at
MI Muhammadiyah Gentasari is the limited program for teacher training outside
office hours, there are also some teachers who are less disciplined in the time
rules that have been set. set.
