Abstract

Treatment of mercury liquid waste with good and appropriate techniques is
very important because the liquid waste will later be discharged into the
environment. Mercury content is limited in liquid waste according to PERMEN LH
No. 19 of 2010 the mercury quality standard in the Gas and Oil business is 0.005
mg/L. This research is an experimental research, namely research conducted to
determine the effect of flocculation time and coagulant dose on the treatment of the
object of research with coagulation. The coagulant material used in this experiment
is aluminum sulfate or often called alum. The object of this research is a sample of
Pertamina RU IV Cilacap liquid waste outlets with an initial mercury value of
0.0109 mg/L. This study aims to determine the flocculation time and the right dose
in the mercury waste coagulation process. The variation of flocculation time used
was 30; 45; 60; 75 and 90 minutes, while the dose of coagulant used was 500; 750;
1000; 1250 and 1500 mg/L. The results showed that the best flocculation time was
at 90 minutes, had a percentage decrease of 84.86% with a mercury yield of 0.0017
mg/L. while the variation of the best coagulant dose at a dose of 1250 mg/L has a
percentage reduction of 86.23% with a mercury yield of 0.0015 mg/L. The
experimental results of both variables have a fairly effective percentage reduction
in mercury levels and can meet the mercuty quality standard threshold of 0.005
mg/L
