Abstract

Social media is one of the internet-based digital modernization. This digital modernization offers a variety of features that provide convenience. This then makes social media a major need that cannot be separated from aspects of social life. One of the phenomena that occurs due to excessive use of social media is addiction to social media, especially those specified in the TikTok social networking application. The occurrence of this social media addiction syndrome can be influenced by several variables, one of which is Fear of Missing Out. This study uses quantitative method. This study received 190 respondents with the object of research being students using TikTok at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto.The construction of the measuring instrument used is the Fear of Missing Out Scale with a reliability value of 0.900 and the Social Media Addiction Scale with a reliability value of 0.917. The analysis results show that there is a positive relationship between Fear of Missing Out and Social Media Addiction (TikTok). This study shows the value of the correlation coefficient r = 0.696 with “medium” labels and the significance value (p) = 0.000 (p <0.05). From the data above, it can be concluded that there is a positive and significant relationship between Fear of Missing Out (FoMO) and Social Media Addiction (TikTok) in TikTok-Using Students at University of Muhammadiyah Purwokerto.
