Abstract

Problem-solving ability is one of the most significant abilities students
should have when learning mathematics since it allows them to apply their
knowledge and skills to solve a problem. The purpose of this research was to
describe the mathematical problem-solving ability of SMP Negeri 1 Rawalo pupils
in terms of parenting methods. This is qualitative descriptive research.
Questionnaires, tests, interviews, and documentation were used to collect data.
Data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing were the techniques
used in data analysis. The participants in this study were the students of class VIII
G SMP Negeri 1 Rawalo. Students were divided into three groups based on their
parenting styles: those who had permissive parenting styles, those who had
authoritarian parenting styles, and those who had democratic parenting styles. The
findings revealed that 1) groups of students with permissive parenting were able to
apply steps to understand problems and steps to put problem-solving plans into
action, 2) Authoritarian parenting groups were able to take steps to comprehend
problems, develop problem-solving strategies, and put problem-solving plans into
action, 3) Students with democratic parenting could use steps to comprehend
problems, develop problem-solving strategies, put problem-solving plans into
action, and re-examine their solutions.
