Abstract
HOTS (higher-order thinking skills) is a high-level thinking ability to think
in complex including analytical skills, problem-solving, as well as critical and
creative thinking skills. Biology learning at SMA Negeri 1 Bantarkawung is seen
to have a lack of HOTS. STEM-based PBL is one model that can be used to train
HOTS. The purpose of this study is to find out the effect of STEM-based PBL
models on students' HOTS thinking on the topic of Environmental Change. The
subjects of the study were students of Grade X of Science class in the Academic
Year 2019/2020 taking the topic of Environmental Change. This is a Quasi-
Experimental study using a Posttest Only Control Group Design research design.
Research instruments in the form of written tests in the form of essays. The results
showed that there was an effect of the STEM-based PBL model on students' HOTS
on Environmental Change with the correlation coefficient of the Kruskal Wallis
test of 0.003, with the strength of the eta test effect of 0.400 (low).
