Abstract
The teacher's role has a dominant role in the learning process, because the learning process is the core of education. Therefore, teachers should be able to create things that can support student development, student knowledge, and the potential of students. Good communication between teachers and students can make students more open about the problems encountered in the learning process. Underachiever is a learning difficulty. Researchers conducted research at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto because of the difficulties experienced by students. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of PAI teachers in overcoming the problems of underachiever students and the factors causing underachiever students at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto. This research belongs to the type of qualitative descriptive research. With the research subject, namely the PAI teacher at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto. This research method uses observation, interview, and documentation methods and data analysis techniques such as data collection, data reduction, data display, data verification. The results of this study indicate that the role of PAI teachers in overcoming the problems of underachiever students in the achievement of moral aqidah subjects at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto is by guiding and motivating students and instilling religious values. And the factors that cause students to be underachievers are two factors. External factors include the family environment and the school environment. While internal factors include factors that arise from within students, such as lack of interest in learning.
