This research was aimed at revealing students' perceptions towards language instructions by the lecturers in English learning process. The study also
intended to find out lecturers’ treatment to make the students speak English during
learning process. The researcher employed a descriptive study in this research
with two instruments used, questionnaire and interview. This research was
conducted at the English Language Education department of Universitas
Muhammadiyah Purwokerto with 32 students participating. The use of Bahasa
Indonesia by the lecturers eased them to comprehend difficult tasks and projects.
The use of Bahasa Indonesia becomes the best preference for the students during
the English learning processes. To cope with the minimum use of English in
English class, the lecturers optimized its use during the learning process. Hence,
the students can better learn how to use English as the medium of interaction
during the English class.
