Abstract

This descriptive qualitative research focused on spoken language politeness and
aimed to describe the forms and principles of the language politeness used by the
teenagers of Jenggul village. The data collection methods were observation and notetaking.
The data were then analyzed by listening to the recording using a headset,
transcribing, and classifying the speeches which contained the forms and principles of
language politeness. The method of this research was the pragmatic identity method
and the instruments were the table of data classification and the table of language
politeness indicators supported by laptop and book. The data were analyzed using
contextual meaning analysis with the maxims of politeness theory theory.The results
found 28 data containing the forms and principles of language politeness
withlinguistic and pragmatic aspects within some of the data. The linguistic aspect
consisted of diction or choice ofwords and intonations, while the pragmatic aspect
consisted of language style. In addition, they also containedthe principle of language
politeness such as maxim of wisdom, maxim of acceptance, maxim of generosity,
maximof modesty, maxim of compatibility, and maxim of agreement.
