Abstract
This study aimed to determine the tradition of weton calculation practice and the requirements and prohibitions in a marriage in Kedarpan village. It also aimed to find out the changes in society towards weton calculation. Based on the problem and research objectives, this research was carried out using the historical method. It is a method that analyzes events that occurred in the past. The stages of the research included (1) Heuristics (A stage of finding and collecting sources), (2) Criticism. This stage was divided into two parts, namely external criticism (criticism from the outside/authenticity of the source) and internal criticism (criticism from the credibility/reliability side of the source), (3) Interpretation. It included the process of interpreting and compiling data. (4) Historiography. It was the stage of writing history. The result showed that the tradition of weton calculation practice in Kedarpan Village as a requirement for marriage has been carried out for generations. This tradition is carried out before the bride and groom have the wedding. Precisely, it is before the bride and groom have the engagement. Javanese weton calculation are often used to determine mate and wedding day. The first thing to do in calculating the weton to determine the requirements for marriage in Kedarpan village is to know in advance the birthdays of both bride and groom. It is to find out the neptu or the value of the count based on the day of their birth. Afterwards, the calculation is done after the value is found. Meanwhile, in terms of prohibition, if the results of the weton calculation match, it can certainly be continued. However, if the results are not suitable, it cannot be continued. It is feared that it will cause undesired effects. In terms of changes in society towards the calculation of weton in Kedarpan Village, the existing traditions in the community are starting to be abandoned due to modernization. There are several factors that affect the course of a process of social change such as technological progress, the influence of other cultures, the desire to progress and develop, a community open system, and people's dissatisfaction about certain things that are considered irrelevant in the present.
