This study aimed to determine the effect of habituation of control cards in improving reading skills for second-year students of RA Muslimat NU Kembaran totaling 20 children. This was experimental research using a pretest-posttest control group design. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews and documentation. The instrument of this study used an observation sheet for the early reading skill of 5-6 year children. The data analysis technique in this study used T test. The results showed that at the pretest stage the average score of the experimental group was 10.4, while the control group was 10.7, and the state of the students' early reading skill was still in the poor category, after being given treatment and posttest, the average score of the experimental group increased to 17.6 while the control group was 16.1. The average score of the pretest and posttest in the experimental group increased by 6.9 while the control group was 5.4. After being analyzed by testing and obtaining the t count and t table (1.25 2.10) at a significance level of 5%, then Ho is rejected. This result indicates that the control card media has an effect on the initial reading ability and the hypothesis is accepted.
