The role of the mediator is something important in achieving peace by the parties to the dispute in the Religious Court. In this case the role of the mediator is intended to encourage the Republic of Indonesia Supreme Court Regulation (PERMA) Number 1 of 2016 concerning Mediation Procedures in court. This study aims to determine the role of the mediator and the efforts made in supporting and encouraging the resolution of sharia economic disputes. As well as opportunities and obstacles faced by mediators.
This study uses a type of descriptive qualitative research, namely the translation according to the actual conditions related to the case under study. Data collection techniques carried out were interviews, documentation and data analysis. The speakers were the Purbalingga Religious Court Judge, Ahmad Faiz. This research was conducted at the Purbalingga Religious Court from December 2018 - January 2019.
The results of this study indicate that the role of the mediator has not been maximized because no one has a mediator certificate. The efforts made by the Purbalingga Religious Court in order to support PERMA Number 1 of 2016 are to continue the sharia economic dispute mediation procedure even though the mediator has not been certified and to maximize mediation the court opens opportunities for mediators to register with the Purbalingga Religious Court. The opportunity for the success of mediation is more open because the disputing parties are legal lay people so that it is easily directed but the obstacles faced are those who do not have good intentions to make peace through mediation.
