This study aimed to describe the types of figurative language in Mata Najwa talk show
uttered by the speakers in the episodes of Kiamat Pemberantasan Korupsi and Ujian
Reformasi uploaded onto Najwa Shihabs Youtube Channel in September 2019. This is
a type of descriptive qualitative research. The data were taken from the speakers'
utterances in both episodes. The source of the data were all speakers and their
utterances during the episodes. The stages of data analysis employed by the
researcher were the pragmatic identity method, with the basic technique of
Determinant Consitituent Analysis (PUP), and advanced techniques of Corresponding
Equalization Technique (HBSP). The results indicated that there were figurative
languages in the speakers' utterances in both episodes of the talk show in this channel
in September 2019. However, all figurative languages, which cover five types of
figurative language, were not used frequently. There were five types of satirized
figurative language uttered in the episode of Kiamat Pemberantasan Korupsi, namely
irony (6), cynicism (73), sarcasm (5), innuendo (3), and antiphrasis (1). Meanwhile,
there were four types of satire figurative language found in the episode of Ujian
Reformasi, namely irony (8), cynicism (95), sarcasm (9), and innuendo (3).
