Abstract

The research entitled English Teacher's Constraints in Teaching English
using E-learning as response against Covid 19 Pandemic in SMA Negeri 1
Padamara was aimed to know the Constraints in Teaching English faced by and
the solutions offered by the teacher participants. This research used a qualitative
survey method. The subjects of this research were three English Teachers in SMA
Negeri 1 Padamara. The researcher used questionnaire and interview as the
instruments for collecting the data. There are four aspects of constraints namely:
Investment, Culture, Technology and infrastructure, and material design. The
researcher found the average percentage of Investment aspect was 77.7% which
means that most English teachers think spending money to buy internet/quotas
and cell phones, laptops, computers to access e-learning a problem. The aspect of
culture was 88.9% it meansmost all teachers still have difficulty when operating
the e-learning system, and the students still have difficulty when they have to
study independently. The aspect of Technology and infrastructure obtained 75%
indicating that more than a half of teachers still have difficulty accessing,
uploading, sending material to students because internet signal at home is often
unstable. And then the aspect of Material Design obtained 66.6% it means there
are still many constraints faced by English teachers during the online learning
process, the teachers still have difficulty selecting suitable materials to make
students active in e-learning.Some solutions made by schools and teachers to
overcome constraints are that schools have provided free quotas every month to
teachers and students, schools hold simulations using the Microsoft Time elearning
system for teachers and students, Teachers insert videos to make students
active and not bored when e-learning.
