Abstract

Gliclazide is one of the drugs used for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus with a relatively short half-life and a narrow therapeutic index (2,2- 8 μg / mL). The formulation of glyclazide in floating tablets can increase the bioavailability of the drug. This study aims to determine the effect and comparison of HPMC and Xanthan Gum on the characteristics and floating properties of the optimum glyclazide tablets. The glyclazide formula obtained with a ratio of HPMC K4M - xanthan gum 4: 1. Method: The tablet preparation was optimized using factorial design methods. HPMC is a very dominant factor in slowing down the dissolution rate of glyclazide. Xanthan gum is a very dominant factor in increasing the flow properties and mass compactibility of glyclazide tablets. Result: Get the optimal comparison and the effect of HPMC and Xanhan Gum on floating tablets. Conclusion: HPMC and Xhantan gum can increase the response to floating lag time and slow the rate of release of glyclazide so that drug release in the stomach can be prolonged.
