Abstract

Temulawak is one of the cosmetic preparations that is claimed that contain natural ingredients, namely curcumin. The increasing number of variants of the Temulawak cream’s brand at low prices has been used by irresponsible parties to produce counterfeit goods that are so similar to the original. Therefore, researchers will analyze the curcumin content in Temulawak cream that is circulating in the market using a FTIR spectrophotometer nominated by chemometric analysis. The validation of the analysis method includes the coefficient of determination (R2), Root Mean Square Error of Calibration (RMSEC), Root Mean Square of Calibration Validation (RMSECV), and the determination of levels. In the calibration model, the value of R2 = 0.9999 with the RMSEC value obtained is 0. In the validation model, the R2 value is 0.999 with the RMSECV value is 0.175538156. The curcumin content in five pairs of cream samples was 0%. By the FTIR spectroscopy method combined with the multivariate calibration of PCA and PLS can be used for determine of levels, but further validation is needed to improve the accuracy of the method.
