The study aimed to examine the errors made by students in solving HOTS problems on the topic of solid geometry with plane figure through Newman procedure. This study was a descriptive qualitative. The research subjects were students of grade VIII G in SMP Negeri 1 Sokaraja. The sampling was purposive sampling technique. This study selected 2 subjects from each category of low, medium, and high achievement. Data collection methods were tests, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques were triangulation time and techniques. The results revealed that the more dominant error was made by high achievement category students in the stage of comprehension (comprehension error), however, some students were able to solve some problems without making mistakes. The more dominant error was made by moderate achievement category students in stage of comprehension (comprehension error), the moderate achievement students produced more mistakes than students at high achievement category. The more dominant error made by students at low achievement category was the comprehension stage (comprehension error), the low achievement students produced more mistakes than students at moderate and high achievement categories
