Abstract
The increasing use of Diapers will increase the waste from diapers, and would be
the environmental problems if not offset by processing system and utilization of
waste. Diapers have two layers where the inner layer consists of selulose pulp
containing Superabsorbent Polymer (SAP). In the field of agriculture, the
availability of water is one of the problems that occur. Water shortage causes
nutrient elements in plants that are needed are not dissolved by water so that the
nutrient supply is being reduced. As a result of plant productivity decreases. SAP
contained in diapers will be used as planting media matrix where SAP capable of
storing more water from the weight of the material. SAP will absorb water in wet
conditions and release the water in dry conditions as the anticipation of when water
availability is a little on the plant. SAP in diapers will be given treatment addition
coconut fiber nanoselulose containing essential nutrient elements such as Ca, Mg,
K, N, P as the supply of nutrients to filler plant. This research aims to get most
effective concentration to be used as filler in diapers as a medium for planting.
Characteristics of Diapers-Nanoserat coir also analyzed by SEM showed
morphology has a high density, swelling ratio decreases with the increase of
nanoserat. the release rate constants indicates the rate of release kinetics models
using Higuchi with R2 = 0,9921 at concentrations of 5%.
