Abstract

Literary works as a reflection of socio-cultural conditions have two functions,
namely entertaining and educating. Literary works have great potential to bring
people towards change, including changes in character. This study aims to 1)
explain the structure of the novel entitled Negeri 5 Menara 2) to identify character
education values contained in the novel Negeri 5 Menara 3) to find out the
relevance of the novel Negeri 5 Menara for learning literature in high school. The
data of this study were obtained from Negeri 5 Menara by A. Fuadi using
qualitative analysis methods. The results of the study show that the Structure of
Novel Negeri 5 Menara by A. Fuadi is as follows: 1) The theme in the novel
Negeri 5 Menara by A. Fuadi is education. 2) Grooves used in Novel Negeri 5
Menara by A. Fuadi are mixed grooves (regressive and progressive). In the
storyline there are several backlighting paths, namely remembering the past,
remembering the past is to tell the events experienced by the character in the past.
3) Characterization in Novel Negeri 5 Menara according to the level of its priority
which is categorized into two, namely the main character and additional figures.
The characters that appear explicitly by the author both from physical and
psychological conditions. 4) The viewpoint in the Negeri 5 Menara novel uses a
mixed angle technique. The mixed technique used is the first person with the "I"
technique the main protagonist and third person with the "he" omniscient
technique. The character values contained in the Negeri 5 Menara novel by A.
Fuadi are: (a) religious, (b) not easily discouraged, (c) discipline and (d) tolerance
in friendship, (e) Sincerity, (f) Social Care , (g) Mandiri, (h) Firm, (i) Hard work,
(j) Patience, (k) Calling on kindness, (l) Serving parents, (m) Seriously, and (n)
Grateful. Novel Negeri 5 Menara has a suitability / relevance to be used as one of
the material in learning literature in high school.
