Abstract

YouTube is considered a source of online material that can play a key role in the teaching and learning field. It has become more popular with people, particularly among adults. This study was aimed to find out how the utilization of YouTube media as a source of learning in the English Eduation Department Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto in terms of the reason why and how the way the students use Youtube as one of their vocabulary learning media. This research took place in English Education Department Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwoketo. The research was conducted with the survey method. The population of the research was all batch of English Education Department. The sampling techniques used in this research were Proportional Random Sampling. The technique of data collection was questionnaire and interview. The data collected was analyzed by descriptive analysis with a percentage formula. After displaying the data using tables and using descriptive analysis, interview result is used for adding confirming information. The result revealed that the students choose Youtube because of technical and content-related reasons. Then, in achieving five essential steps, Youtube put up many features as learning media.
