Abstract
This research was aimed improving students’ reading comprehension in narrative text through Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) technique. The research subject was a class X 2 students of MAN 1 Banjarnegara in academic year 2013/2014, with a number of the students were 28 students. This research was done in November 2013.
This research method was Classroom Action Research (CAR) which consisted of two cycles. Every cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing, evaluating, and reflecting. To do this research, the researcher did collaborative with English teacher in the class. The CAR was done based on the Kemmis and Mc. Taggart’s design. The data were collected through observation, reading test (pre test and post test), questionnaire and documentation. The qualitative data were analyzed based on the observation result of students’ activities in the class and questionnaire, while the quantitative data were analyzed by using reading test (pre test and post test)
Based on the data analysis, it could be concluded that improving students’ reading comprehension through Two Stay Two Stray (TSTS) was a success. It was backed up the result of reading test. First, the average of students’ reading comprehension increased from 6.19 in pre test. The average score of the students improved 7.01 (13.25%) in cycle 1 and improve again to 8.05 (30.05) in cycle 2. Therefore, the improvement of mean from pre test until post test 2 was 16.8% and the learning completeness in cycle 2 was 89.28% of minimum 85% as classical target. Second, the data of observation showed that the average of the students’ improvement in reading activities in cycle 1 was 6.43% and cycle 2 was 17.87%. Then the improvement from cycle 1 to cycle 2 was 11.44%. Third, the result of questionnaire showed that the students were more enthusiastic in reading class. It was proved from the result which was 81.43% of students gave positive response to the implementation of TSTS in teaching and learning process
