Abstract

Indonesia is the third biggest rice producing country after China and India.
The rice milling process will produce10% bran consisting of 17-22% rice bran oil.
This oil is the result of rice bran extraction which contains high antioxidant
(γ-oryzanol, tocopherol and tocotrienol) that are useful for pharmacy,
cosmetics, and health. This research aimed to find out the solvent ratio and optimum
extraction time toward the yield obtained using the n-hexane solvent, 50 mesh of
rice bran, 15 minutes stabilization on 110°C, and independent variable suitable
with the run on the response surface method (RSM). This research used soxhlet
extraction. The results showed the optimum solvent ratio was 1: 6.4142 with 3.4142
hours of optimum extraction time, 19.69% yield, in the range of solvent ratio 1:4,
1:5, and 1:6 with extraction time of 1 hour, 2 hours, and 3 hours. The density was
0.910 and the free fatty acids level was 11.88%.
