Abstract

Population growth in Indonesia is the population change caused by high birth rate. This study aimed to determine the rate of population growth and the factors causing the high birth rate in Patikraja Sub-district of Banyumas regency. This study used survey method. Population of this study was 921 fertile age couples in this village. 10% of the population taken as the sample of the study by using cluster sampling. Data of the study were collected by using interview / questionnaire techniques. This study was categorized as a descriptive qualitative research. Analysis technique used in this study was cross tabulation. The results of the study showed that this village had the highest population growth rate (1.64%) among other 13 villages in the same district. Influencing factors of birth rate are categorized as demographic and non-demographic factors. Demographic factors were age composition, age at first marriage, and non-demographic factors were education level, contraceptives (family planning) participation and parents' perceptions on the child influencing the number of children in fertile couples.
